Veolia Water, the Water Division of Veolia Environnement, has just been awarded the contract to rehabilitate and extend the Govsani wastewater treatment plant serving Baku by AZERSU, the Republic of Azerbaijan’s national water company. Baku is the capital city of Azerbaijan and the country’s principal economic centre.

This major contract, which is worth €35 million, is to be financed by a financial protocol signed between the governments of the Republic of France and the Republic of Azerbaijan. It includes design studies, the supply of equipment and the commissioning of two new biological treatment lines handling 200,000m3 per day, as well as the complete rehabilitation of existing aeration installations, bringing the unit’s total capacity to 680,000m3 per day.

This project, which will take three years to complete, will pave the way for a very significant improvement in the quality and yield of the wastewater treatment facilities. As the first project between a French company and AZERSU, this represents an important milestone in the upgrade of the water infrastructure of the Azerbaijani capital city.

Veolia Water Systems/OTV, the subsidiary of Veolia Water specialized in design of technological solutions and construction of facilities for municipalities and industrial clients, will handle the entire contract.

The contract represents a first for Veolia Water’s expansion in the region where demand for the rehabilitation of water and wastewater treatment infrastructure is high.
